STEELERS
After the Steelers lost to the Bengals in Week 11, HC Mike Tomlin said neither side surprised him.
Tomlin said, through Joe Rutter of TribuneLive, that there were some repeat concepts, but Cincinnati was also in some repeat concepts. That’s football. When it’s good-on-good, especially in the late part of the season, there are very few secrets. We weren’t surprised by their offensive performance at all. The key is execution, and that’s where I’d like to keep our attention.”
In response to a question about his lack of targets this season, Diontae Johnson refused to elaborate and said he must “deal with it.”
‘I don’t want to talk about that too much,’ Johnson said. “A lot of that stuff is out of my control. I know it looks like I’m not involved, but it is what it is, and I have to deal with it.’
Tomlin said defenses are planning against Johnson and must find ways to “open up opportunities” for him.
“Let’s be honest,” Tomlin said. “Diontae is known within the group. People are going to try to minimize his impact on the game, particularly on possession downs and red-zone plays.” When you have a guy who is a Pro Bowler — and, really, he’s the only one — and there is a young group, that’s part of it. The question is how do you make opportunities for guys like that? Other guys play.”
