Bills, Dolphins, Jets, Patriots In the AFC

BILLS

  • ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler mentions Bills DC Leslie Frazier as a potential head coaching candidate.

  • Some teams are expected to interview Bills OC Ken Dorsey, ESPN’s Dan Graziano reports.

  • LB Tremaine Edmunds (groin, heel) and DE Greg Rousseau (ankle) have been ruled out of Thursday’s game by Bills HC Sean McDermott.

  • According to McDermott, DE A.J. Epenesa (ankle) is doubtful and C Mitch Morse (elbow) is questionable.

DOLPHINS

  • According to PFF’s Brad Spielberger, since the Dolphins do not have any running backs under contract for next season, they may be motivated to sign Wilson.

  • Wilson will get a three-year, $9 million extension with $3.75 million in guarantees. It’s not much, but that’s the running back market and it gives him almost more guaranteed money than he’s earned in his career.

JETS

  • (Zack Rosenblatt) Jets HC Robert Saleh said first-round CB Sauce Gardner (calf) was limited in Thursday’s practice.

  • Saleh said that Zach Wilson’s career in New York is not over: “Zach’s career here is not over.” (Brian Costello)

  • Wilson will return to the football field at some point this year, Saleh said (Rosenblatt).

  • As Saleh reiterated, Wilson will have another chance: “This is not the end of his career.” (Connor Hughes)

  • Saleh said there is some “irritation” in the locker room, but it hasn’t turned into hate: “Maybe there’s a little irritation right now… but I don’t think there’s any hate.” (Hughes)

  • Wilson remains their franchise quarterback, but Saleh believes he needs a “reset” after struggling in Week 11: “He’s capable of so much more than he’s playing at… his issues are so fixable.” (Rosenblatt) He just needs to reset. We remain convinced that he’s the future of this franchise.

  • It stinks because I know what kind of competitor Wilson is. I have to do a better job. It starts with me and ends with me.” (Rosenblatt)

  • As for Wilson’s comments following Week 11, where he deflected blame for the 10-3 loss to the Patriots, LaFleur doesn’t blame the quarterback for feeling frustrated at the time: “I don’t think he meant it…caught up in the moment…can’t take it back. He’ll learn from it.” (Rich Cimini)

  • Despite the criticism, Wilson believes he must “be better as a leader.” (Rosenblatt)

  • Wilson said he understands he’s benched because he “wasn’t doing his job.” (Rosenblatt)

  • This provides Wilson with a “more physical” reset: “It is a mental and physical reset, more so physical.” (Cimini)

  • WR Corey Davis confirmed Wilson addressed the team: “It shows who he is and his character. He’s a leader and we’ll need him in the future.” (Rosenblatt)

  • The Jets’ LB C.J. Mosley hopes that the quarterback change will allow them to find a “difference maker” for their offense: “We had a hitch in our offense, so we were looking for a difference maker to be more consistent … If things don’t go well, you have to look for another option.” (Rosenblatt) That’s not a knock on Zach, but everyone has a job to do.

  • (Cimini) Jets QB Mike White said Saleh informed him of Wilson’s benching on Tuesday.

  • WR Elijah Moore said the organization would handle the situation similarly to when he and WR Denzel Mims requested trades. (Cimini)

PATRIOTS

  • The Patriots have ruled out OT Isaiah Wynn (foot) for Thursday’s game. (Mike Reiss)

  • The Patriots’ David Andrews was listed as questionable with a thigh injury.
