Allen could miss Sunday’s game against the 7-1 Vikings due to an elbow injury.
According to Buffalo’s injury report released on Friday, Allen is questionable for the team’s Week 10 game against Minnesota.
Sean McDermott said Friday that the Bills had planned for this possibility right from the start. “So we’ll see how it turns out. … If Josh is able to play, he needs to be Josh, and if Case (Keenum) plays, Case needs to be Case.”
After Buffalo’s Week 9 loss to the New York Jets, Allen injured his elbow, but downplayed its severity immediately afterwards. Since then, McDermott has been asked about his quarterback constantly, due to concerns about his right elbow.
Buffalo added Keenum in the offseason to cover this exact scenario, and McDermott has repeatedly emphasized his team’s confidence in him. In 2017, Keenum led the Vikings — the team Buffalo plays Sunday — to a 13-3 record and a playoff run that reached the NFC Championship Game.
It’s been a while since Keenum played a starting role, but he might have to face his former team on Sunday. Buffalo needs Keenum to play his best game without making mistakes that could lead to a second straight loss if he does not perform well.
