What Is Justin Fields’ 40-Time?

Posted on October 11, 2022 by NFL11 Team

One of many dual-threat quarterbacks entering the NFL in recent years is Justin Fields. Justin Fields is one of a number of dual-threat quarterbacks entering the NFL now.

Despite his ability to extend plays and run with the ball, Fields was selected 11th overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2021 NFL draft. Many fans do not know his 40-yard running time.

In 2021, Justin Fields ran an unofficial 40 time of 4.44 at the Ohio State Pro Day since the 2021 NFL combine was cancelled due to Covid 19.

There is a significant difference between running a 40-yard dash at a pro day and at a combine.

NFL combine use electric timing with lasers at the beginning and end of the forty yard drill. This allows them to accurately measure how long it takes the player to complete the drill.

It is common for scouts to use hand timers during pro days to determine a player’s 40 time. While this method is fairly accurate, there is a margin of error due to human error.

Hand timed 40 yard dashes are considered unofficial since every millisecond counts.

Justin Fields Height And Weight

This is a great height for a quarterback, the average NFL quarterback is six feet three inches tall, just like Justin Fields.

As a quarterback with his body fat, Field weighs 227 pounds, which makes his forty-yard dash all the more impressive.

Field’s unofficial 40 yard dash time of 4.44 is quite impressive.

Pre Draft Strengths And Weaknesses

Strengths

Toughness Willingness To Do What It Takes

In Field’s game, scouts loved his willingness to do whatever it took to win, whether it was taking a huge hit to make a throw or fighting through contact to gain some extra yards.

When Fields entered the draft, he was even more valuable because you cannot teach this kind of character trait to a quarterback.

Makes Quality Reads

Scouts were impressed with Fields’ ability to read defenses. Most colleges use relatively simple passing concepts that only require a single read from the quarterback.

Fields, on the other hand, often made his throws after multiple reads.

Keep Teams Honest With His Legs

Scouts also appreciated Field’s ability to run. With his legs, teams were forced to spy on him.

A defender is taken out of pass coverage, making it easier for him to throw the ball.

Weaknesses

Doesn’t Feel Pressure From Outside

During the draft, Justin Fields was criticized for his inability to feel pocket pressure.

In his collegiate career, Fields often failed to notice edge rushers advancing into the pocket, which led to more sacks and fumbles.

Needs To Improve Eye Manipulation

In addition, scouts wanted to see Field improve his eye manipulation. Some quarterbacks will use their eyes to entice defenders to leave open spaces on the field.

Once the safety moves, the quarterback turns his head and completes a pass to the other side of the field by staring in a particular direction.

Here are some other speedy quarterbacks’ 40-yard dashes, such as Daniel Jones and Russell Wilson.
